Hopkins Beats Jones in Bore

Bernard Hopkins avenged his 1993 loss to Roy Jones Jnr via a fairly uninspiring 12 rounds points decision that few fans paid to see.

It was a foul-filled affair and the fould were probably the main highlights of the bout. The first five rounds were tentative with Hopkins edging probably 4 of them. In the sixth round Jones landed a fairly innocuous left hook to the back of Hopkins head with Bernard on the ropes. Hopkins went down on all fours clutching the back of his head and the ref deducted a point from Jones while giving Hopkins plenty of time to recover.

On resumption Hopkins stormed into Jones for the remaining few seconds of the round, ignoring the bell and continuing to exchange blows. The two had to be separated by the referee and security guards as the fight finally sparked into life.

Sadly round 7 was again fairly dull. In the 8th Hopkins hit Jones with a rabbit punch to the back of the head. Jones replied with the same shot and Hopkins again hit the deck complaining.

Again in the 10th Hopkins went down after Jones hit him with a borderline shot which he claimed was low. The referee and fans were unimpressed and the fight resumed.

Hopkins worked in the last 2 rounds a little more and won by scores of 118-109 and 117-110 twice.

Hopkins ridiculously called out David Haye afterwards and later collapsed in his dressing room. He was taken to hospital but was given a clean bill of health.

There isn't much mileage left for either of these two former greats and retirement can't be far away for both of them.
