Kessler Wins in War
Mikkel Kessler and Carl Froch fought a real war in their WBC World Super Middleweight title fight and Super Six contest which saw Kessler taking a unanimous decision. It was a close fight with both fighters landing and taking hard shots and putting everything on the line.
Scores were a too wide 117-111 as well as 116-112 and 115-113 in what was a highly competitive contest. Both fighters looked to land hard shots and impose themselves and Kessler constantly advanced forwards, looking like a different fighter to the one who lost his last fight to Andre Ward.
Although always competitive it was looking like Kessler was edging ahead as we approached the last few rounds. Both fighters were getting more and more tired but kept the punches coming and refused to take the foot off the gas. The last two rounds were wildly exciting and the last round was an all out free swinging brawl as both threw and landed big looping punches.
The fighters showed respect for each other afterwards and I think there was a lot of admiration for each others heart, courage and toughness. Although Froch lost the decision he can still progress in the Super Six tournament if he can beat Arthur Abraham in his next fight.
Kessler has saved his career and will fight Alan Green in his next fight.
