Macklin Stuns Asikainen!

Matthew Macklin scored a stunning 1st round KO victory over Finland's Amin Asikainen to win the European middleweight title.

Matthew Macklin after 1st round KO of Asikainen

in the 1st round

Macklin looked confident from the start and suddenly exploded with a huge left hook just a minute and a half into the 1st round. The Finn hit the canvas hard and he was up on very shaky legs and looking very disorientated.

Matthew moved in for the kill and with over a minute left Asikainen was struggling to survive. Macklin applied the pressure and landed some shots to the head that put the Finn over again in his own corner on the seat of his pants.

He got up again but his legs were stiff and the referee made the right call by waving the fight off after he'd reached the eight count.

Macklin looks like he's finally come of age and on this form has every chance if he can get a world title shot in the next 12 months or so.
