Pascal Defeats Dawson

Jean Pascal defeated strong favourite Chad Dawson in a pulsating fight in Montreal to retain his WBC light-heavyweight title.

Before the fight Dawson was widely regarded to be the best fighter in the world at light heavyweight, and deservedly so. He'd defeated Glen Johnson and Antonio Tarver twice for world championships and was still endefeated.

Meanwhile Pascal had lost at super-middleweight to Carl Froch and had stepped up to light-heavy to win a championship.

It was an exciting fight with Pascal going into an early lead on the scorecards. He was the aggressor and used speed and variety as well as some good power shots to control the fight. Dawson responded well at times but struggled with the energy and intensity from Pascal.

Dawson was wobbled a couple of times and Pascal also felt some strong Dawson punches as the crowd enjoyed the action. In the 11th round Dawson had Pascal rocked but then a clash of heads caused a cut to Chad's eye and the referee stopped the fight. It went to the scorecards and all 3 judges had Pascal ahead and thus retaining his WBC crown.

There is a rematch clause in their contract and Chad Dawson will be very keen to exercise this.

What a great fight and a rematch that everyone will be keen to see!
