Sexton Retains Against Rogan

Sam Sexton retained his Commonwealth Heavyweight title in an action packed fight in Belfast against Martin Rogan.

Rogan was unable to come out for the seventh round after a niggling neck injury prevented him using his left arm. It was a very sudden and unexpected ending but came after Sexton had hurt Rogan with accurate, powerful punches in the sixth.

Rogan started aggressively and Sexton kept a tight defence and was economical with his punches. Rogan constantly came forward expending a lot of energy but Sexton took a lot of punches on the arms and gloves and was landing now and again with the cleaner shots.

Rogan had a strong fifth, appearing to rock Sexton at one stage, causing Sam to hold on. However, Sexton replied later in the round with a few accurate punches as Rogan now appeared tired.

Then came the strong sixth for Sexton, where at the end Rogan looked spent.

Sexton can now go forward and fight Danny Williams for the British title and id Rogan can recover from his injury he can still pack the crowds in around Belfast.
